Spotlight Family: Juan’s Family
Home Country: Mexico
Juan, a native of Mexico, spent seven years traveling to the United States on an H-2A visa for seasonal agricultural work. Each year, he would come for a short period. In 2018, he was recruited for a longer season, when he fell victim to being forced to do work without compensation and under threat. He collaborated with the authorities and as a result, was granted a visa for trafficking survivors (T visa).
Eager to reunite with his family and to continue supporting them, Juan submitted a petition for his three children—Juan Pablo, Joana, and Aaron—who are eligible as derivatives of a T visa holder. The petition was approved in 2022. Since then, the family has been reunited in Idaho after nearly six years of separation. Juan is deeply thankful for the support and protection he has received as a T visa holder. His children, too, are grateful to be back with their father and to have the chance to work in a supportive community.
